Recently Mrs. Ranney's class read "Pepita Talks Twice!"
The story was even written in both English and Spanish,
Pepita, who can speak both English and Spanish, decides that she doesn't want to "speak twice" anymore. When her decision creates problems she hadn't thought of, Pepita realizes that sometimes it can be a good thing to understand two languages.

Translations:

What Spanish words or phrases have you enjoyed learning?

ReplyDeleteI found many words in a Universal Spanish Dictionary.
Soccer and football are both the word futbol in Spanish. A bombo is a brass drum. Baseball is beisbol in espanol. The English word park is parque. I like to slurp sopa, which is soup.
Harriet Tubman had a lot of valor, which is courage. Mrs. Ranney's first name is confianza in Spanish.
I will bring the dictionary to school tomorrow.

Que Pasa? What is happening? I love your blog and your teachers never cease to amaze me. I look forward to posting from different places along the coast of West Africa in a few weeks. I believe a very small country in Africa called Equatorial Guinea has Spanish, French, and Portugese as their official languages.

ReplyDelete¡Hola clase! Yo soy Juan, el hermano de Ella (I am Jonathan, Ella’s brother). I am also learning Spanish at school. In our class, everyone needed to choose a Spanish name, so my Spanish name for the year is Juan. I think it is excelente (excellent)that you are all learning Spanish at a young age. Knowing more than one language is very beneficial, because the more languages you speak, the more people you can communicate with. Spanish is especially important, because it is the second most spoken language in California, after English, of course.

I would like to learn how you say “you’re pretty” in Spanish.
I know how to say some colors in Spanish: rojo, azul, amarillo, verde, morado, anaranjado, rosado, café, negro, and blanco. That is red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, pink, brown, black, and white.
My brother, Jonathan, would probably know more words in Spanish.
I hope we get to learn more Spanish soon!

ReplyDeleteI really enjoy Spanish, but I only know a few phrases. Spanish is really intriguing to me, and in the story "Pepita Talks Twice" I like how it said the story in Spanish and in English.
My sister is learning Spanish at her school, and she always says that she loves her Spanish class. She taught me a few words, but I can only remember one right now. The word is es, which means is in English. It sounds similar, and in is spelled almost the same way, except that it has a mark that they use in the Spanish language.
My mother also knows a couple of words in Spanish. She sometimes helps my sister with her Spanish homework. I will be sure to ask both my sister and my mother to teach me some Spanish words.
I think that when people speak Spanish it takes longer to say what you want to say then when you want to say it in English.
Those are some of the reasons why I think Spanish is so enthralling.

The video made me crack up when you had you funny conversations because I had no idea what you were saying until I read the translations. Como Esta? Muy, Muy Bein, as always. This post will be helpful. Perhaps in forth grade I will get someone in my class who speaks Spanish, and then I can talk to them a little bit. Maybe when I'm older, I will travel to Spain, and I will know how to speak a few words.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading about Pepita Talks Twice. I spent five years learning Spanish in Junior High and High School and still remember so much of it. I think that it's really fun to know another language because it gives you a different way to communicate with people.
My favorite saying in Spanish is "Que tenga un buen fin de semana" which means "have a good weekend." I can still remember my 8th grade Spanish teacher teaching that to the class.
I also loved learning how to conjugate verbs because they are almost all the same!
