Spectacular Skyping with Our Buddies in British Columbia!

On Friday, we were thrilled to able to Skype for our very first time!

We had a wonderful conversation with our Quad Blogging Buddies in
Mrs. Watson's 2/3 Class in the province of British Columbia, Canada!

Since they are also in the Pacific Time Zone, it was the same time there as here, 1:15 P. M!

It was amazing to realize that they were 1,079 miles, or 1,736 kilometers away
while we were speaking with them!

We learned that their school  is located on a very small island with a population of only about 800 people. The island lies in a bay between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia, Canada.

Everyone in both classes had the opportunity to introduce themselves and
share some information or ask questions.

We compared many interesting facts about our countries and
state or province.
Did you enjoy Skyping with our new buddies?

What did you learn from the conversation?

  1. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

Skyping with Mrs. Watson’s class was really exciting! It was like they were right in the room! I can’t believe that I saw Sahara! Do you remember?

I learned from the conversation that the school in British Columbia has forty-five kids. Our school has over six hundred students, so it is a much more populated school. I also learned that there are three classes that have combinations of grades in the school in British Columbia. I think our school only has one combination class. Finally, during our conversation, I discovered that the Kermode bear, “spirit bear” , or “ghost bear” is one of British Columbia’s symbols, where as California’s mammal is a grizzly bear.

@Mrs. Watson's class, How do you study in a cobination class? Do you work in groups, or do you all study the same thing?

    Your Student,
    Ella

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I enjoyed Skyping with our new buddies.

I learned that British Columbia's provincial flower is on a tree. I also discovered that British Columbia has a provincial mammal.

We visited Victoria, British Columbia last year on our Alaskan cruise. We took a horse and buggy tour and saw many important sites like the capitol building and the coastline.

    Cheers,
    Aidan

  5. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I very much enjoyed Skyping with Mrs. Watson and her class!

I learned that British Columbia, or B.C., has a state bird. It's a Steller's Jay. Our state bird, the California Quail, is about the same size as the Steller's Jay, and the Steller's Jay is also very bright, while the California Quail is not.

During our Skyping time, I also learned that the B.C. state tree is the Western Red Cedar, and it looks at lot like a pine tree. Our state tree is the Coast Redwood.

I hope we get another chance to Skype wth someone again!

    Great Wishes,
    Jamie☆

  10. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

When we skyped with Mrs. Watson’s class, I thought it was very exciting.

I hope that we can do that again with other classes. It’s amazing that we can connect from thousands of miles away through skype.

What I am amazed with is that we have over 600 kids in our school compared with them. They only have 45 students in their school.

    Best Regards,
    Emily

  11. Dear Mrs.Ranney,

I thought that Skyping with Mrs.Watson's class was really fun! I learned that there are a lot of children in our school, but in their school there are only about 45 kids. I subtracted 600 from 45, and I realized that we have 555 more students than they do! That is a huge difference! One more thing that I learned was that the population in Canada is a lot less than in the US. I subtracted 310,968,034 minus 34,000,000, and I got 276,968,034. That is also a huge difference!
Well, those are some of the things I learned.

    Sincerely,
    Jordyn

  12. Dear Mrs. Ranney,
    Skyping was awesome.
I had so much fun skyping with Mrs. Watson's class. My favorite part was when we found out how many kids in their school which is 45. I wish we could do it again. Another of my favorite parts was when we got to tell them the facts about the United States and California. Why do you call the bear a Kermode bear, Spirit bear, and Ghost bear?

    Best Regards,
    Sydney
