November is Family Blogging Month!

Mrs. Ranney and her students love to share what they are learning and experiencing. In an effort to include more family members in our online community, we are proclaiming:

November is Family Blogging Month

We're inviting everyone to comment:
moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Even people who are not really relatives are invited.

Make a list of your family members. Look through the blog archive and select specific posts that might be of interest to each relative.

Students will be inviting their family to participate in a conversation!
Maybe we'll get some 2-point comments

Are you excited about Family Blogging Month?

Many families will be together with other relatives during Thanksgiving week recess!

Who will you invite to comment?

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class,
I am so excited to be invited to participate in the November Family Blogging Month. What a great idea. I can't wait to read all the interesting stuff Mrs. Ranney's class family members will blog about.

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween. What did you all do on Halloween? We collected lots of candy and had fun going from house to house in our costumes. What costumes did you wear? Were they funny or scary? Did you get lots of candy too?

Thank you again for inviting me to participate in your November Family Blog.
    Wishing you all the best,

  3. We are so excited for Turkey day this year. Aidan's Uncle Brett and Aunt Nadia always come to town and this year we are going on a cruise. We are so happy that Ms. Ranney gets a week of rest and we get a week to spend with the people we love the most. Thanksgiving is a day for saying thank you and we have so much to be thankful for.
We hope everyone in the class has a most enjoyable Thanksgiving. What is each student's favorite part of the meal? We love cranberry sauce that our Grampy makes when we are home.

  4. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I am so excited about Family Blogging Month! My grandma and grandpa from Israel are already reading the blog every day. They love it because they can see what I'm learning about in school. They were mostly impressed by The Uganda Global Project posts.

I will invite my mom, dad, brother, and my aunt and cousins in Israel. My oldest cousin is in the military so she might not be able to comment. I will also invite my great uncle. He lives in Baltimore, and he's a famous scientist so he might like the "Matter Matters" post.

  5. Dear Class,
Who is cooking your turkey dinner? This year I get the day off, however in the past I was the chef along with Aidan's dad. We both love to cook. Cooking is fun, unless you are the turkey. What do you children like to cook and what is your favorite Turkey day treat?

  7. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Students,

I am reading your blog every day, but never left a comment. I decided to comment now in honor of Family Blogging Month.

I would like to comment on the post ”Are you an Expert? “. It was fascinating to read about all your talents and skills.

I am an expert on aging. It is called a gerontologist. I know a lot about the causes of aging, what happens when people age, and how families can help older members in their families age successfully. I also know a lot about the health care system and how people can get health care.

In order to become an expert, I went to college, then continued to graduate school to get a masters degree followed by a few more years in another graduate school where I got a doctoral degree (Ph.D.). This is a doctoral degree but unlike doctors, I do not take care of people, I do research and study people.

It took hard work to become an expert. I studied very hard and always had support from my family. Because I am an expert in this area, I get to write books and articles and I even get asked about aging issue in the newspapers and on radio shows. I also get to teach college students who will become the future experts on aging, and get invited to speak in front of many audiences. It is exhilarating!

The most enjoyable part of being an expert is that I keep learning new information every day. I never stop. I challenge myself to master new skills and learn from other experts. Learning is fun!

If you ever have time and are interested in learning about aging, I will be very happy to come and talk to you about it.

    Warmly,
    Daphna (Ella’s mom)

  10. Dear Mrs Ranney and class,
Family is the most important thing to me, so I am extra exited about family blogging month.
All of my and Ariel's dad's siblings live in Israel with there wives and children, so do our parents (Ariel's grandparents) and also uncles aunt and cousins. I have uncles, aunts, and cousins in Australia too .
In our family Friday night is a very special time when we all gather together and thank God for each other and the abundance in our lives - we call it "Erev shabat" meaning the evening of shabat.

  11. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

We are so impressed that your class is participating in the Uganda Global Project. It is a wonderful learning experience for Emily to discover how other children live such a different lifestyle to the one she experiences in Calabasas.

This month, our Family is looking forward to being together for Thanksgiving and enjoying the traditional recipes that we make every year.

Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to the blog.

My favorite pat of the meal is mashed potatoes. I like to help my mom bake the apple pie.

Thanks for commenting on my blog and your questions.

What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving? What is your favorite part of the meal?

  13. Dear Mrs.Ranney,
Since I am going to my cousin's house I will ask them to go on one of the blogs that we have. I will also probably still make lots of comments while I am there. I will probably write about my trip. I think some of my cousins will like the expert blog post. Maybe if my little cousins want to make a blog I will type it in for them. I also am looking forward to this month (November) because it is family bloging month and we can see how many people can get on the blog from people in our class.

  16. People in China do not celebrate Thanksgiving like we do in America as
the turkey is not native to China. For Asian Americans living in America, we eat turkey with sticky rice stuffing, and we eat our turkey with chopsticks!
    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  17. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class,

On Mikayla's Dad side of the family, her relatives live in Chile. Chile is a country in South America. They do not celebrate Thanksgiving in Chile, since it's an American Holiday. However, her grandfather, "Tata," just flew in from Santiago to spend a couple of weeks with us. He was able to celebrate Mikayla's Birthday and Halloween. Since he is most comfortable speaking in Spanish, he always tries to teach Mikayla a few words in Spanish, so she is aware of her culture.

    Warm Regards,

  18. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class,

Thanksgiving is a day to appreciate our health, our family and friends and the opportunities we have this country. This year, we are going to three different Thanksgiving celebrations. In the morning, we will celebrate with our friends from India, for a traditional Indian buffet. In the midday, we will celebrate with Mikayla's grandmother for an Italian-style Thanksgiving meal. In the evening, we will have dessert and coffee with Mikayla's uncle and aunt, and other relatives from Chile. It will be an international day of celebration!

On Friday, hopefully everyone will sleep in and relax.

    Warm Regards,

    Cindy (Mikayla's Mom)

  19. Dear Mrs. Ranney,
I am very excited about family blogging month! For Thanksgiving my family and I are going to Houston, Texas. We will visit my cousins. While we're there I am going to tell my cousins about the blog. I will recommend the "Fabulous Fall" post to them because I think they have different weather in the fall then we do and it would be fun to learn about it. I will also ask other family members.

@Philip's mom On Halloween I went trick or treating with my fiend. We got lots of candy! I was Harry Potter and it was not very scary. I agree that it was fun going from house to house in my costume. Thanks for commenting!

    Warmly,

  20. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class,

As we approach Thanksgiving, have you ever thought about the bird that we enjoy to eat? Here are a few interesting facts about the turkey bird. Only the adult male turkey makes the gobble sound. The adult male is called the "tom" turkey. His head and neck has no feathers. Also, the soft floppy growth on the front of its head, which dangles over its beak, is called the "snood" or "dewbill." While, we refer to the pouch like area in front of its throat as the turkey's "wattle." Who knows if it is the male turkey or female turkey that struts around in full plumage? Why does he do that?

Also, when you sit down to eat your Thanksgiving meal, do you prefer to eat the white meat or dark meat? How about your mom or dad?

Finally, does anyone know how many pounds did the biggest turkey in America weigh?

Have fun thinking about our feathered friend,

    Cindy (Mikayla's Mom)

  21. Dear Mrs. Ranney --

Few things at Thanksgiving dinner are better than melted marshmallow goodness on top of sweet potatoes. This is my favorite Thanksgiving side dish and Mikayla's grandma has an amazing receipe.

What are other people's favorite side dishes at Thanksgiving?

Thanks for asking family to comment on the blog.

Today is Mitzvah Day. A day for doing good deeds. Aidan, Lucas, their Grammy and I went with our temple to the Woodland Hills Boys Home and made sandwiches for the homeless. We decorated the bags and made cards. I am very proud of the boys.

I am also proud of his soccer game. HIs team, the Tigers, has 5 students from Chaparral. Tucker and Grayson are in Mrs. Yollis class.

Keep up the good work Aidan.

Did you see the comment that my cousin Ben wrote?
Do you know what's cool about time. What's cool about time is that if you live in different places on earth there are different times. It's awesome, because where my cousins live they are three hours ahead of us! I didn't have a lot of time to make blogs because I at my cousin Nate's Bar Mitzvah. I will still try to tell you a little bit about my trip. I will tell you a little bit about my trip now. I got to Baltimore, Maryland at 3:00 A.M. our time and 6:00 A.M. where my cousins are right now. Then, when I got there I said hi to all of my cousins and my Aunt Faith. I also said hi to my Uncle Jeff and then I went and played with my cousin that is my age, but he is a little bit older. His name is Max. We played a game that my cousins have in their basement. On that game you can play by yourself, or you can play with somebody. Then, at the night time my other cousins and their dad, also my Uncle came for Nate's Bar Mitzvah too! His name is Marc, and his kids names are Amanda, Aaron, Samantha, and Caden. Only Amanda and Aaron came because Samantha and Caden are really little. Also my other Uncle came that night too! His name is David. There were a lot of people at the house! I forgot to tell you that my Grandma and my Pop Pop (that's what I call my Grandpa) stayed at a hotel because there was not enough room in the house! Even though they have a really big house! Everyone thought that Nate did a really good job at the two services. Guess what? The day of Nate's Bar Mitzvah party was the d.j.'s 30th birthday! Everyone was having such a good time at the party so we went an extra 20 minutes! The theme of Nate's Bar Mitzvah was a sports theme, which was just like his older brother Ben's. The cake was so awesome! It cost $2,400.00! It was so awesome though, it was a rugby ball and then a snake called a viper with its mouth around it. It was so big though! At the brunch the next day we used the rest of the cake for a decoration. There was so much food at the brunch, and all of the food was great! After the brunch was over I had to go to the airport. My mom didn't have to go to the airport though because she was staying until Wednesday. On Tuesday my Mom said she wanted to stay longer so she can see her sister longer. She is coming home on Saturday now. Right when my mom gets out of the air plane I am going to hug her so much! I can't wait until my mom gets home!

Thank you so much for inviting me to participate in your class blog. I loved seeing all of the arrays you made and thought you came up with some really creative ideas! Arrays are a neat way to learn multiplication and to show what each multiplication sentence means. Thanks for sharing all your hard work through this fantastic blog.

    Keep up your great work-

  31. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I love that you have invited us all to participate in Family Blogging Month. I am so excited to see the kids in this class learning new things from people all over the world and getting experience with their typing skills in the process. They are very lucky to have you as a teacher this year.

November is a perfect time of year for family because our family has such a long standing Thanksgiving tradition. I am excited to see my sister-in-law, brother-in-law and my niece and nephews. We always have such a great week with them but the best part for me is at the dinner table on Thanksgiving when everyone goes around to tell what they are most thankful for this year. There are always some good laughs to be had but also we really get a chance to remember just how lucky we are (even if we don't think so sometimes).

I wish all of you a relaxing, fun and safe November!!

    Sincerely,

    Ellen (Jamie's mom)

  33. Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays. This year will be very special because we are going with Emily for the first time to Union Station in Pasadena. They need volunteers to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving Day. In the afternoon we will have our traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the family here. Some of our relatives live in England, Peru and Venezuela where they don't celebrate Thanksgiving. Our favorite part is before we start eating, we sit at the table and each of us gives “Thanks.” We express our feelings and gratitude for life. After dinner we like to play a game called "Rummikub." It is so much fun.

I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving day!!

  35. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

On Thanksgiving, I played football with some friends. The game was exciting! I never got the ball, but the game was fun anyway. My team won the game.

After the game, I went home and watched a football game. The Saints played the Cowboys. I was rooting for the Cowboys. Although the Saints won, the game was close.

After all that football, I had a
delicious turkey dinner with my family.

What was your favorite part about Thanksgiving?

I am very excited to submit my first blog! This is my first time blogging ever. Carly has given me a few tips.

I remember when we did family blogging month in November. It was so interesting because we got to meet lots of people for the first time and then in April, we got to speak to them again!

Family blogging month encourages all of us to get onto the computer and start conversations! When you let the Family Blogging Month winners make their own posts, I was so excited!

After you said that Jamie and I could make a post together, I was so happy because we already had a perfect idea of what to make our post about! Will ever have another family blogging month again?

    Warmly,
