April is Family Blogging Month!

Mrs. Ranney and her students to share what they are  learning and experiencing.

In an effort to include more family members in our online community, we are proclaiming:

April is Family Blogging Month!

Each student will make  a list of their family members. After looking through the archive, students will select specific posts tailored to the interest of a particular relative. We're inviting everyone to comment: moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, and cousins. We welcome friends, too!

Students will be inviting their family and friends to participate in our two online spaces, this classroom blog and our Ranney's Record Photo of the Day! The top three bloggers will be proclaimed Family Blogging Month winners and receive honor and prizes.

NEW: This year, awards will also be given for best commenters! The commenter awards will be by nomination at the end of April.
We will look for who was able to bring about valuable conversations in the comment section.

Here is the key we used for our last Family Blogging Month~

  1. Dear Lucas and Class, It is so nice to see you having family blogging month again. Today it is snowing on top of the Mountain. Here in the lower land the desert flowers are starting to bloom. We hope to get one more ski day before the season is over.
Good luck to all with family blogging.

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class,

I am so excited that it is Family blogging month again. Additionally, I am excited that it is Spring.

What do you like about spring? I like many things about spring. One of my favorite things is that plants sprout and bloom. Another reason I like spring is that the daylight lasts another hour and therefore I can play outside longer at night.

    Cheers,
    Lucas

    1. Hello Lucas and Class,
Spring in the desert brings out buds on the trees and plants that were dormant during the winter. We also have many birds who are nesting and it is nice to hear the sounds of birds chirping.

Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class -

I'm so excited that April is Family Blogging Month! April is one of my favorite months because Colin's birthday is April 6! It also has many fun holidays... Passover, Easter, Earth Day. I thought it would be fun to see what else is celebrated in April, and here are some April holidays I found at www.holidayinsights.com:

    National Humor Month
    International Guitar Month
    Keep America Beautiful Month
    National Poetry Month
    Library Week (week 1)
    Karaoke Week (week 4)

So much to celebrate in April! Besides Family Blogging Months, which of these other holidays are your favorites to celebrate in April? What family traditions do you have for these holidays?

I know the Chaparral Green Team has some fun activities planned for Earth Day. What have you noticed so far?

    Cheers!

    1. Dear Colin's mom,

My favorite holiday is Easter, and I'm Anthony. My tradition is going to my aunt's house for Easter.

My favorite holiday in April is Passover, and I'm Lucas. One of my family traditions is that I always go to my Grandma's house for the first night of passover. Another tradition of mine is that we always hide the Afikomen on the first night of Passover.

      Cheers,
      Anthony and Lucas

    1. Dear Grampy,

I knew that because you told me. When I was last there, you told me that Santa Fe is the oldest capital in the United States.

By any chance is it still snowing there?

I'm guessing that ski season is over because it is spring. Is it ski season over?

      Cheers,

    2. Hello Class, Just a few days ago we had 5 inches of snow on top of the Mountain. The ski area leases the land from the United States forest service and after Sunday the ski area is closed until next year. Too bad the ski area had to close as we can see lots of snow on top of the mountain.

  6. Hello Lucas and Class,

I am visiting with Lucas and his family in Calabasas today. It's a nice break from my work in technology. Tomorrow I go to Las Vegas for a technology and media conference called the National Association of Broadcasters. There will be lots of exhibits on the future of radio and broadcasting business - how music radio and TV shows are being changed by technology. I will share anything I learn at the conference later this week. Right now I am really enjoy time with Lucas, his brother and sister, mom, and Dad. Lucas' dad is my wife Stacey's brother, so that makes me Lucas' uncle.

I hope you all have a great week.

  7. Hi Lucas and class

I'm Lucas' aunt Stacey. I live in New York with my husband Charlie and we came to visit this weekend.

On Saturday night my pug Betty came to visit Lucas and his awesome dog Babe. Betty loves to play with Babe but for some reason Betty was tired this visit and didn't play too much.

Charlie and I had brunch with Lucas and his family - always the BEST to see them. We miss them so much now that we are in New York.

Look forward to reading more class blogs.

    Love,
    Auntie Stace

  9. Hello Lucas and class,

I am Nadia, Lucas' aunt. I came to the United States seven years ago when I married Lucas' Uncle, Brett. I was born and raised in Nicaragua. One of the hardest part of living in Connecticut has been adjusting to the cold weather. This particular winter was extremely cold. We had several weeks in which the temperature never got above freezing. In my hometown Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, we have a tropical climate; therefore, it never gets cold.

    Thanks,

    Aunt Nadia

Poems can be prolonged or concise

    National Poetry is especially nice

To read and write many a poem

Twould be nice, if on this day
You wrote a poem of home

    Pen what touches your soul

It speaks, that you are whole

    Walking through the family door

Greeted by smiles that you adore

Safe, secure and loved you are

    No need to go afar
In realizing the brightness of your star

  11. Hello Class and Mrs. Ranney!
Hope you are all doing great! I really enjoyed family blogging month the last time. This should be fun once again! I hope we can get family from Israel to blog once again.
As Erin mentioned in her comment, April has so many fun holidays and celebrations. One to add to her list is World Health Day, which is actually today, April 7th. It's a great day to think about how we can all live healthy lives.
Anyhow, happy blogging to you all!
    All my best,
    Nancy (Noah's Ema)

  12. Hello Mrs. Ranney and Class,

Did you know that April 10 is National Sibling Day? Isn't that a great tie-in to Family Blogging Month? I have 2 wonderful siblings, Andrea and Victoria, who are Blythe's Aunties. Happy Family blogging month!

    Cheers,

  13. Dear Class,

I hope your families are enjoying family blogging month. This is my first one of the month.
I thought I would talk about our new 7-month old puppy, Cinnamon, because Jacob hasn't told the class about her yet. She is a vizsla mix, but is mostly all vizsla. You can tell this by her coloring (she is red as vizslas are) and by her personality. Cinnamon was given her name because she looks like the color of cinnamon. We rescued her over a month ago and she has been a welcome addition to our family. She loves Jacob and his two brothers very much.

Hope you all enjoy family blogging month!

    Sincerely,

    Michelle

  14. Dear Class,
I hope that everyone is enjoying Family Blogging Month. I am sure that you guys are enjoying third grade. I too had a great time during third grade. Mrs. Ranney is the best teacher, so it makes it even better. This year, I am graduating from Chaparral (the best elementary school). Blogging was so fun in the third grade. I remember when we reached 25,000 visitors and we had a whole post about it. I know third grade is amazing, but I am here to talk about fifth grade. You get to do really fun projects, activities, and get to be the oldest on campus. Outdoor Ed will be the best experience of elementary school. In fifth grade there is a website called Edmodo which is exactly like blogging, but mostly just for homework. I hope you have an excellent experience for the rest of your years at Chaparral.

    Sincerely,
    Josh (Jacob's brother)

  15. Dear Mrs. Ranney's class,
Tying in to "Family Blogging Month" and "Sibling Day", I would like to share that Mrs. Ranney is my older sister. She is a great teacher, and she taught me to read even before I went to school.

    Happy day,
    Janis Hatlestad
