  1. Howdy Mrs. Ranney’s Class!

As the first African American to earn an international pilot's license, I am mighty proud to be commenting on this here blog! I was born in 1892, in Texas, and back in my day, I didn’t use a computer at all! This is all new to me!

When I earned my pilot’s license, there weren’t many opportunities for women pilots in the United States, and especially not for African American women. I’ve heard times have changed, and I’m so glad to hear it! I’ve also heard that there have been many changes in air travel. Maybe some of you will be able to tell me about that!

I’m surely looking forward to seeing who else shows up here on the blog! I hope to hear from some other fellow aviators, as well as other important people!

    All the best,
    Bessie Coleman

    1. Dear Bessie,

My name is Steve Jobs. If you were using a mac for the computer you used to write this comment, thank you because I created that! I didn't just make the mac, but I invented Apple, the most successful technology company in the world!

I've changed the way we use computers, listen to music, play games, and talk on the phone.

I hope to hear from other inventors, and find out how they changed the world.

Thanks for inviting me on the blog,
      Steve Jobs

      Dear Steve Jobs,

My name is Thomas Jefferson. I don't think I have ever used a mac, but I have doubled the size of the United States of America. I did that by buying the Louisiana Territory form France for $15 million dollars.

I was born on April 2, 1743, but when the calendar was changed, his birthday became April 13, 1743.

Thanks for inviting me to the blog. I have never done this before.

      Dear Steve Jobs,

      Hola soy Pablo Picasso.
I have never really used a mac or any other apple device, but I am using one now it's amazing!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself I was born on October 25, 1881 and if you say the year of my birth backward you'd get the same thing! Anyway I composed some types of art that change art all over the world like Collage, Cubism, and Synthetic Cubism. I am known for my huge painting called Guernica. It is 12 feet high and 25 feet long. In my long life I created more than 50,00 paintings.

I don't want to brag but I'm considered one of the greatest artists who ever lived. Still I think you are pretty amazing.

Bye and thanks for creating computers so that I can blog,
      Pablo Picasso

    Dear Mrs. Ranney's Class,

My name is George Washington. You may know me as the guy whose face is on the quarter and on the side of Mount Rushmore. Or you may know me as the first president of the United States of America. I was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. I came from humble beginnings, but always knew I would achieve great things in my life. After helping write the Declaration of Independence, I led my fellow colonial troops against the Brittish in the Revolutionary War. After we won the war, I became one of the founding fathers of our great nation. I helped write the Constitution and form our federal government.

Thanks for inviting me to your blog.

    Sincerely,

    George Washington

      Dear George Washington,

I appreciate that you believed you could achieve great things in your life, because when I was younger I believed the same thing! And look what has come of that, I was one of the first woman war nurses and I also founded the American Red Cross.

I was born December 24, 1821, and I always had an interest in helping people. As I grew older, I traveled far from my home to help those who were wounded in the war. While you were one of the founding fathers of this nation, I became the founder and creator of the National First Aid Association. My life became about helping those in need, and I loved every second of it!

Thank you Steve Jobs, for creating the wonderful device to type on!

Sincerely, Your American Red Cross Founder,

      Clara Barton

    2. Dear George,

Although I wasn't as great a president as you, I did stop the Cuban Missile Crisis. Also, I supported the space program. Six years after I died, Neil Armstrong was going up into space.I was born on May 17, 1917. I am not on a dollar bill like you, but I'm on the fifty-cent piece.

How did you type a comment so well in the 1700's?

      Cheers,
      John F. Kennedy

      Dear George Washington,

My name is Guion Bluford. I was the first African American in space. I was born on November 22, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When I was a little boy, I had a phone, but not a computer. I think I heard today that Steve Jobs made the computer, invented Apple, and owns Pixar. I also knew President Ronald Reagan, because he sent me a special message while I was on my first shuttle flight.

I forget, what was the message you sent me, Ronald Reagan?

      From your friend,

      Guion Bluford

      Dear Mr.Washington

You may have founded the U.S.A, but I founded something less important called the Boy Scouts. Let me tell you something, Jobs this is a wonderful invention I am still kind of new to this thou. By the way, I was born on February 22,1857 in Oxford England.
When I was older, I went in the army.

Mr. Washington when did you win the Revolutionary War?

      Sincerly,

Six years after you died I was the first man on the moon. Before you died, you said you wanted a man to fly to the moon. I was glad when you said that. It was really amazing when I was on the moon.I think you give really great speeches.

Say hello to your wife Jackie.

What was it like with you being president?

      Dear George Washington,

My name is Thomas Jefferson. We have a lot of things in common: 1) We were both born in the Colony of Virgina. 2) We worked together to write to Deceleration of Independence. 3) We also worked together on writing the Constitution. 4) Both our faces are carved into Mouth Rushmore.

We must have been good friends,

    Dear Mrs. Ranney's class,

Hello! I'm Abigail Adams, and I worked for Women's rights. It was really lovely that I'm able to type on a computer instead of writing letters to friend's and my husband John Quincy Adams. It was wonderful to see all the people who wrote on this blog.

George Washington, I thought you were a great president. I was so sad that you didn't get to live in the White House. I was the first First Lady to live in the White House!

Clara Barton, I was so delighted that you founded the American Red Cross. That was nice of you to help people that were sick.

Even though I am new to writing on the computer, I think I got the hang of it!

    Goodbye,
    Abigail Adams

In 1876, I invented the telephone. This was the first device that could transmit speech electrically. I was a scientist, inventor, engineer, and innovator who saved many lives and changed the world.

That's a whole lot of paintings you made. Do you know any facts about me? Like I was the first women to go to space! I was also the youngest person to orbit the Earth. I even worked with the President. By the way, Thanks Steve Jobs for making this awesome apple computer, its really helped with this comment.

I don't know any facts about you but I bet there are plenty.

When I heard you were the first women in space I was awed.
I can't Imagine myself doing anything like that.
      You were very brave!
What you did is amazing !
What did it feel like going through space?

I agree, I drew a lot of paintings.
      I was super busy.

      Cheers,

  7. Alexandra/Amelia EarhartMay 14, 2013 at 7:57 PM

    Dear Clara Barton,

When I was young I was a nurse too, but my most successful career was being an aviator.

I was born on July 24, 1897, in Atchison, Kansas. When I was a little girl, I was inspired by a stunt pilot at a carnival. From that day on, I always wanted to fly an airplane. When I was 25, I received my pilot's license and started darting everywhere to be able to fly.

When I began to take flights, I had to endure the difficult journeys. I was the first woman to fly over the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean solo. The United States Congress was astonished by my efforts the they awarded me the Distinguished Flying Cross. I was very proud that I encountered all those trips.

Another reason why I enjoyed flying in an airplane so mush was also because I got a beautiful view in the air of many scenes.

    Your friend,
    Amelia Earhart

  8. Dear Guion Bluford,
I did call you during your mission and said “You will serve as a role model for so many others and be so inspirational.” This has been true. As the 40th President of the United States, I helped tear down of the Berlin Wall in Germany. If you visit my Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California you can see a large piece of the wall on display. You can also see many artifacts about my life in the military, as an actor and Governor.

Thank you for inviting me to your blog.

    Sincerely,
    Dutch (Ronald Regan)

  9. Dear Thomas Jefferson, Guion Bluford, Pablo Picasso, and Clara Barton,

Wow! I am so happy I have been mentioned so many times on this blog. I had no idea what an impact my company has on all of you.

Thank you Thomas Jefferson for doubling the size of America. Now I have more Apple stores, and if it wasn't for you, I would only have a few.

Thank you Clara Barton, that was such a nice compliment you put on your comment. I knew I was onto something big when I invented Mac Computers, but I had no idea it would be such a hit!

Pablo Picasso, you are an amazing artist. I can search the web and see all of your paintings. I really like the one with all the faces.

Guion Bluford, you are a pioneer because you were the first and best African American to walk on the moon.

    Thank you all,

    Steve Jobs

      Dear Steve Jobs,

      Hi again!

Thank you for saying I am an amazing artist.
If you were to search all my paintings, it would take you quite a while.
What painting with all the faces, I've made so many?

This is my second time using a mac, and I'm loving it.
Are you proud that your company has made so many electronic devices?

      Thanks again for the mac,

    Hi Mrs.Ranney's class!

I am Elizabeth Blackwell, and I was the first woman doctor. When I saw computers come out, I bought one right away. Then I found your blog, so I left a comment.

Later in my life I met Abraham Lincoln, and he became a president. If someone comments, I will reply back.

Did anyone else become a doctor.

  11. Dear Sally Ride, and Baden Powel,

Sally Ride, you are welcome for me making the Mac. I knew my computers were great, but I did not know they were awesome.

Baden Powel, thank you for saying how wonderful my computers are, but I can't take all the credit for making Apple computers. My friend, Steve Wozniak, helped me make the computers. Also, when I first started using computers I also did not know how to use it, and I learned very quickly.

    Your friend,
    Steve Jobs
