April 12: National Drop Everything and Read Day!

Happy 97th Birthday, Beverly Cleary!

We found many books by Beverly Cleary right in our classroom!

Today, in honor of Mrs. Cleary's birthday, we
celebrated by participating in

Throughout the day, we just "dropped" whatever we were doing and read a book!

We read novels, picture books, books about animals, magazines,
and any interesting books we could find! We discovered some books right in our classroom that we had never noticed before!

  1. Hello Mrs. Ranney and class,

National Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) Day is a wonderful way to experience reading with others. I know my life is far richer for my ability to read and write.

I sometimes wonder how many words I read or write on an average day. I think the number would probably be in the thousands.

The last book I read, at least in part, was about rocks and minerals. I was searching for information about a certain stone I had been sent. I think I was able to identify it.

What an incredible author Beverly Cleary is. It would be wonderful to know you have written books people want to read but to be a big success is reserved a very few special authors whose imaginations allow us to share worlds we would otherwise never have known.
