Geographical Comparisons!

Recently while studying comparative suffixes (-er and -est),

Mrs. Ranney's students had the opportunity

to combine this skill with their studies of

landforms and bodies of water!

*******

Some super researchers used internet search engines
and found out the following:

Francesca discovered that the Nile River is the
longest river in the world!

Nicole learned that it is colder at the South Pole
than at the North Pole!

Gregory and Vanessa found out that the
tallest mountain
in the world is Mt. Everest!

Eve read that the Pacific Ocean is bigger than the Atlantic!

*******

What geographical comparisons can you make?

Use the Online World Book Encyclopedia to research some facts about
landforms or bodies of water.
Share those facts in your comments!
Goldie, the Garibaldi, our research mascot, says, "Be sure that you put the facts you find in your own words! Do not just copy from the encyclopedia. That is called plagiarism, and it is not allowed!"

  1. Dear Mrs. Ranney and class,

I found out that the Mississippi River drains in to the Gulf of Mexico. Some people think the Mississippi River is the longest River in the United States, and some people think the Misouri River is the longest river.

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney and Class,

Did you know that Mt. Whitney is the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States? At the top of the summit, the elevation is 14,505 feet. My stepdad, Shawn climbed it this past August for the fourth time. At the top of the mountain you get to sign your name in a guest book!

    All the best,

    Hayley

  3. Dear Class,

Did you know that the Appalachian Mountains are one of the largest mountains in North America? They are the second largest to be exact. These mountains extend about 1,500 miles. It is between a lot of states like all the Atlantic Coastal Plains states. This mountain range is divided into three main sections called the Blue Ridge, the Great Valley, and the Ridge and Valley Province. The mountains are 435 million and 250 million years old which makes them the oldest mountains in North America. These mountains were named after the Apalachee indians. This mountain peak rises 6,684 feet near Asheville, N.C. The Blue Ridge has most of the tallest mountains, including the tallest, Mt. Mitchell.

I can't wait to hear about what you learn.

    Yours truly,
    Josh

  12. Dear Mrs. Ranney and class,

We learned that the Everglades cover the land from Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay and part of the Gulf Of Mexico. The northern part of this landform consists of a prairie covered by shallow water and by saw grass, a grass like plant with sharp, jagged edges that grow as high as 12 feet in some places. It is located in Southern Florida.

    Best regards,
    Andrew and Josh
