Fabulous Fall!

Did you know that this year, September 22, is the first day of autumn?

In Southern California, we do not experience autumn, or fall,
the same way some places do.

However, we do feel a change in our weather, and even
the leaves of our trees sometimes change c
olor!

Have you ever wondered why leaves change color in the fall?
If you'd like to find out the answer
or learn some other fabulous fall facts,

  1. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

My favorite fall holiday is Halloween. Last year, I was a witch. I think I might be a witch again this year but I'm not completely sure. I just hope that I get a lot of candy!

  3. Dear Leah and Jamie,
I'm impressed with how quickly you found this post!
@Leah, when I was your age, Halloween was my favorite fall holiday. I loved dressing up in costume. My favorite was a black cat costume that my mom made for me! Now, I love Thanksgiving best, especially this year because both my daughters will be coming home to spend it with me.
@Jamie, in my house football is a pretty important fall sport because Mr. Ranney loves to watch as many pro games as he can! My favorite sport is great in fall and all year round, and that is hiking! A special non-sport fall activity I have is baking breads and cookies!
    Keep up the great commenting!

  5. Dear Mrs.Ranney,
Each bud on a tree is the beginning of a new leaf. The sun warms the bud and the new leaf begins to grow. As the leaf grows it starts to make its own food. Each leaf is like a tiny food factory. The leaf uses sunlight and "chlorophyll".
The green chlorophyll covers up the other colors of the leaf. It covers up other colors so we can see ony green leaves. When Fall begins, the leaf starts to die. There is less sunlight because the days are shorter. The leaf no longer makes food. When the leaf begins to die,the leaf no longer makes food. The chlorophyll breaks down and the green color begins to disappear. All the hidden colors the reds, yellows, oranges, and browns can now be seen!

Did you know that the broad part of a leaf is called the blade? The blade is connected to the stem. The stem supports the blade and turns it towards the sun. The bud grows at the base of the leaf. The midrib is the central stalk of the leaf. The awesome autumn facts were AWESOME!

  22. My wife and I are very lucky because we live in Connecticut and we get to experience the leaves changing color. Some people say Connecticut has the prettiest autumn. The trees are very beautiful when their leaves change color. The only problem with autumn is that we need to clean up all the leaves once they fall to the ground. Have a wonderful year at school.

My favorite sport in fall is cheer because it is not too hot out and not too cold. It is just right, usually.

I also like to bake. I bake many things like pumpkin bread, cookies, and even apple pie.

I have a question for you.
    Do you like to bake?

My favorite fall holiday is Thanksgiving, especially this year! My favorite sport is kayaking. Gardening is also fun to do in the early fall.
Today I found something else that "falls" this time of year. Our high temperature today (Monday, 10/4) is almost 45 degrees lower than our high temperature one week ago (Monday, 9/27.) Now that is a great fall!

In my last blog entry, I said that I was a witch for Halloween last year and that I might be that again this year. However, I decided to be a ladybug! My costume is black and red, the wings have red sparkly polka dots and it also comes with an antennae headband! It is so cool and I can't wait until everyone gets to see it at the Halloween Parade!

I am so excited for a holiday coming up! Guess what the holiday is? The holiday is Halloween! Do you know what you are going to be for Halloween yet? I don't know what I am going to be. I think I am going to be Harry Potter or Hermione from Harry Potter. Did you dress up for Halloween last year? Will you go trick or treating this year? I know that I'm going to a place not far from my house to trick or treat. If you are going trick or treating then where are you going to trick or treat? What are you going to be for Halloween? I wonder what everyone else in my class will be for Halloween. I actually have a favorite holiday in autumn and it is Thanksgiving. I like Thanksgiving because I get to have some really good dinner and dessert! I also get to play lots of games with my cousins.

I think that the leaves you brought in today were awesome! I think that they were awesome because the all looked so different, and they were all so colorful, which made them all so pretty. I have some questions for you.

Can you tell me what kind of tree those really pretty leaves are from?

Which leaf did you like the best?

Can you explain what your favorite leaf looks like?

    Warmly,
    Carly

My favorite holiday in November is also Thanksgiving. During Thanksgiving I also visited my cousins. My favorite holiday in December is Hanukkah.

@Mrs. Ranney and class, in my favorite sport (softball) during the fall the season is not very competitive. It just helps you improve your skills and have a blast!:)

Guess what? My favorite holiday in December is also Hanukkah,(that is what I wrote about in my spiral notebook.) I think that it is amazing that I have some similarities with someone in my class. I also did softball in the fall, and like you said it was not very conpetitive in the fall. Though, in the spring it is very conpetitive. I hope that in the spring we will be on the same team.

    All the best,

I can not believe that autumn is already over! I still remember all of the extraordinary things that we did during autumn. I remember making the puppets, and making the pumpkin bread. 37. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

Hello, this is Carly and Jamie. We feel like fall was so long ago, yet it was only 3 months ago.

    Carly's favorite sports are:

Soccer and softball. I like soccer because I like to use the amazing tricks I learn during practice. I enjoy softball because I get to compete against my friends.

    Jamie's favorite sport is: Softball.

I LOVE softball because I started the earliest age I could so it has become a lot easier. I have also become a pitcher so I have a lot to practice.

    Happy New Year!

    All the Best,
    Carly and Jamie:)
