Internet Weather Day

Internet Weather Day ~ February 23, 2010 on PhotoPeach

Mrs. Ranney's and Mrs. Yollis' classes joined a fabulous Internet Weather Project sponsored by Switlik Elementary School in New Jersey.

* * * * *

Participants were asked to check and record weather conditions at noon on
February 23, 2010.
We checked to see if it was hot or cold, cloudy or clear, calm or windy, and wet or dry. The slide show that you viewed above shows how we did this.

* * * * *

We will send our results to Switlik Elementary School in New Jersey. Then they will post the results they receive from all the participants.

You can see that the participants are from all over the United States and the World.
We can't wait to find out about the weather in each of these places!

What did you enjoy about weather day?

What new weather facts did you learn?

What kind of weather do you enjoy most?

  2. Dear Mrs. Ranney,
I enjoyed taking the outside temperature today. The weather was chilly, mixed with a little warm sunshine. My favorite weather is when it's raining hard!

    Roxana

  3. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I learned that the cirrus clouds are high and wispy. I like the weather when it's a sunny day, but not too hot outside. I also like the rain, but not when it rains a lot. I like living in California because we have so many sunny and clear days.

I like different kinds of clouds such as cumulus, stratus, and cirrus. They are very entertaining and exciting things to learn about.

    Best,
    Cameron

  4. Dear Mrs. Ranney,
I really enjoyed Weather Day. I learned about all the different types of clouds. My favorite cloud is a stratus cloud because it streaks across the sky. The weather I enjoy the most is snow because it's fun to play with. One example is that I built a snowman with my sister in Lake Tahoe over Thanksgiving. Wouldn't it be so cool if it was snowing here at Chaparral?

    Andrew S.

  5. Dear Class,
I enjoyed Internet Weather Day too! I am really looking forward to finding out about the weather in the states and countries of the participants.

@Roxana: Great job being the first to comment! I love the rain as well.

@Cameron: I'm glad to hear that you are interested in different kinds of clouds. Did you find the link about clouds that I put in the blog post? I love California because of all our sunny weather too.

@Andrew: Stratus clouds are really interesting! It is interesting that you were thinking about the possibility of snow here at Chaparral. Did you know that it did snow here in the 1980's? There was actually enough snow on the ground to build a snowman! It was amazing!
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Ranney

  6. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

The weather I enjoy most is hot and sunny. I wish it could be summer all year long, but I know we need the rain. My favorite kinds of clouds are cumulus. They look like big, fluffy cotton balls.

I hope today is warm and sunny!!! I hope your class enjoys learning all about the weather.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Pollack

  7. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I think that it was nice that we got to go outside with thermometers and see what our temperature was. My favorite weather is cool but not windy and hot but not too hot. I love weather day. I think that it's so cool for people to tell on the internet about their weather.
    Regards,
    Sara

  8. Dear Mrs.Ranney,

Thank you for letting us participate in Weather Day. One fact I learned was that cirrus clouds streak in the sky. My favorite weather is warm because if we lived in another state where it was cold, I would be freezing.

    Carson

  9. Dear Mrs.Ranney,

I was in New Jersey on Monday and it was cool in the morning. By the afternoon it got so cold I was worried it would rain. There were several cirrus clouds in the sky and guess what, it did rain and than it snowed. I am glad to be back in California.
Carson told me that Switlik Elementary school was in New Jersey and they were doing an Internet Weather Day. Isn't it funny that I was in New Jersey to experience the weather there?

    Sincerely,
    Donna (Carson's grandma)

  11. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I had a lot of fun measuring the temperature and wind on Tuesday. My favorite part was learning about how Cirrus clouds show rain and it rained today. What was your favorite part about National Weather Day?

    Sincerely,
    Ben (Mrs. Yollis' student)

  12. Dear Ms.Ranney,

I loved the weather day program. I think it would of been a magnificent sight if we could see the white ball bounce. I learned that you can measure rain. While I hope that next time we do weather day we can see the rain's measurement.

    Best,
    Ethan :)

  13. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I liked going outside to see what the temperature was outside. There were cirrus clouds, and it was raining on Wednesday from the morning to the afternoon. On Wednesday night there is going to be rain likely at 42 degrees cold. I only like sunny days at 97 degrees. I liked weather day a lot!

    Best,
    Marisa

  15. Dear Mrs. Ranney,

I learned from the news, that Friday and Saturday there might be rain. By Sunday it might clear up, so you should put away your umbrellas.

In the sky there are cirrus clouds everywhere! They are straight and take up the whole sky. It shows that there might be rain soon.

    Best,
    Garrett

  16. Dear Mrs. Ranney,
Jessica and I saw cirrus clouds in the sky on Saturday. It was really cold out side in the morning. We love hot days outside because we play outside in the pool. If it was snowing that would be really really awesome! Every one could have a snowball fight and make a snowman.

    Best,
    Maria and Jessica

  17. Hello Mrs. Ranney's class,

This is Sarah, Mrs. Ranney's daughter. I live in Brooklyn, New York. We had a big blizzard on Friday! It rained and snowed on Thursday, and by Friday morning, it was only pure snow, and it snowed almost all day. It stopped on Friday night, and got warmer over the weekend. Now the snow is melting!

    Your friend, Sarah

  20. Dear Mrs. Ranney and class,

I thing it is wonderful you are learning the basis of Meteorology. I love to watch the Weather Channel. All of the basic types of weather make bigger and more dangerous types of weather. For example, a Hurricane can have rain that can flood streets in less than a hour, and have winds blasting at 160 mph+! Remember don't underestimate weather, it can be very powerful. Have a wonderful spring break.

    Your former student,
    William M.
