Minicozzi, to write multiplication
and division story problems.

First, students chose a X/÷ fact family and wrote the
four equations.

7 x 6 = 42
42 ÷ 7 = 6
42 ÷ 6 = 7
Third, students wrote a story to match the math equation. Fictional characters were used as the main characters.
Finally, students used the computer program called Pixie to illustrate their story problems.

ReplyDeleteWhen you are doing a word problem on Pixie, my advice is to go to the shapes icon. Next you put your items that you are using in the circles. This makes it easier to group them.
Here is a word problem I made up:
My sister has nine carrots and she wants to put them into three equal groups. How many carrots are in each group?
Doing the word problem wasn't that difficult because I had great teachers to assist me.
Can anyone solve the word problem that I made up above?

ReplyDeleteI can solve that problem. Here is my work: 9 divided by 3 = 3 carrots.
For my advice on Pixie, is not to put too many items on your page because you need to drag, paste, and make all of them the same size if you chose to change their size.
This is my word problem:
On school days I play with my dog three times a day. During weekends, I play with her five times each day. How many times in a week do I play with my dog?
Can someone answer my problem?

I think the answer is 3x5=15. Then 5x2=10. Then 15+10=25 times a week.

While I was in music class, I realized that there were 25 guitars in total. They were separated out into 5 equal groups. How many guitars were in each group?

Is this the right work for your word problem? 25 divided by 5 = 5.
Do you like to make math problems? Is it easier for you to use multiplication or division? For me it is simple to include either one, but I try to make them a little tricky. It's so fun!
