Dear Mrs. Ranney and class,
ReplyDeleteI had a great summer! My two favorite things were Magic Mountain and our family trip to Maui. I went parasailing and rode in a helicopter!
What was your favorite part of summer?
From,
Your new student Alex
Dear Alex,
DeleteI am so glad to see that you took the challenge and jumped right onto the blog! Your summer sounds full of excitement and fun.
I visited Maui last summer, and took a breath-taking helicopter ride myself! My other favorite activity there was snorkeling, which I tried for the very first time!
This year, a highlight of my summer was my camping trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. If you visit my new Photo of the Day blog, you will see some pictures from my trip!
I look forward to seeing you on our first day together tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney and my new classmates,
ReplyDeleteI had an amazing summer! I went to Canada and Mexico. I had an amazing time! I snorkled for five hours in Mexico
and in Canada we caught ONE HUNDRED ONE POUNDS OF SALMON!
How was your summer?
See you tomorrow,

DeleteI am so glad to see that you took advantage of the opportunity to write about your summer here on our blog!
I tried snorkeling for the first time last summer in Maui, and it was a fabulous experience! I would love to try it in Mexico some day.
One hundred pounds of salmon is amazing! It just so happens that it is one of my favorite foods!
I look forward to seeing you in class today!
Cheers,
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney
ReplyDeleteMy name is A.J. I am a little nervous about 3rd grade, but excited too. I had a great summer. The best part was when I went to Michigan and Canada. I got to visit Nicky, your former student. I saw the titanic exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum. I also learned how to surf. Please do not give me any standards I heard they aren't very fun.
Sincerely,
A.J. Kriegel
Hi A. J.,
DeleteIt is completely normal to be a little nervous about starting a new grade. I'm sure everything will be fine and that we will have a terrific year together!

Dear Charlotte,
DeleteYour summer does sound great! I visited Maui for the first time last summer and am planning a trip back next year! My favorite activity there was snorkeling. The fish and coral were so beautiful and colorful, and the water was extremely relaxing!
This past summer what I enjoyed most was a camping trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains where I hiked everyday. If you go to the Photo of the Day blog, you can see some pictures from my trip!
I think our first day together was wonderful and that we are going to have a terrific year together!
Cheers,
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
DeleteI will go to the Photo of the Day blog and see your pictures. I also hiked in the Sierra Nevada Mountains a few years ago with my Uncle and Aunt. I don't remember too much, but I do remember that I was very tired, there was no food, and my dad had to carry me at the end. I have also skied in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Mammoth, and I can't wait until it snows this coming winter so I can hopefully go again.
Sincerely,
Charlotte
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteCharlotte had such a great day today. She is very happy to be in your class. I am happy as well! You taught Carson so many wonderful skills, and I know Charlotte will learn them as well.

I am so happy that you had a great first day because I did too!
See you tomorrow!
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteAidan had a terrific first day in school owing in large part to the enthusiasm and warm welcome you conveyed to the class. The class blog already is off to the races! It's great that you've developed this mechanism for keeping parents and kids so involved.
Happy 1st day of school to all,
Kari and Jack -- Aidan F.'s mom and dad
Dear Kari and Jack,
DeleteThank you so much for your words of encouragement. I am so happy to see parents commenting on the blog. The more people that get involved, the better a learning tool the blog will become!
We did have a wonderful first day, and there are many exciting days to come!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteI spent my summer in Macedonia. There we visited an ancient church with lots of old paintings on the walls and ceiling. We also went on a boat ride in the Ohrid lake with a guide who rowed. He told us about the lakes and rivers in the area. He said that there was a lake under one of the mountains. I also got to spend time with my family there. My favorite thing was riding in our boat. I also enjoyed jumping off the boat. What was the most exciting thing you did over summer?
Sincerely,
Alexandra
Dear Alexandra,
DeleteYour trip to Macedonia sounds so very interesting! I would love to see some photos of the lake you went boating on! I'd also would really enjoy hearing more about what you did while you were there!
The most exciting thing I did this summer was hiking over a 12,000 foot mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountains! If you go to the photo of the day blog, you can see a picture I posted there about my hike!
See you very soon.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteAs you know, Charlotte has to miss school tomorrow for a family reunion. Friday night she will be going to see The Pageant of the Masters. Charlotte is so enthusiastic about your class blog, she is having her dad bring his lap top on the trip so that she can write to you and the class! As a parent, I want to tell you that this is such a great way to encourage the kids to get excited to share their opinions and experiences, while at the same time learning to type.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Binder
Dear Mrs. Ranney
ReplyDeleteI'm at my Grandma's house writing this entry.
Tomorrow I am going to Newport Beach. We are having a family reunion and I will be seeing my cousins Olivia and Julia. On Friday night I'm going to see Pageant of the Masters with live people posing in paintings. On Saturday we will be with my two cousins. And on Sunday I'm going on a boat in the ocean to go dolphin and whale watching.
Sincerely,
Charlotte
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteSo far school has been fabulous. I just have a few questions about your blog. What is the best way to get to your blog? What is the average number of people that visit your blog each and every day? How much time did you spend on making your blog? And last but not least, why do you create class numbers by last name?
All the best,
Aidan F.
p.s. bye-bye!
Dear Aidan,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you feel so positive about school so far! Remember to bring that positive attitude with you everyday! :-)
You ask some very good questions, and many students will benefit from learning the answers. The best way to get to the blog initially is to type in the url, but the best way to continue to get to the blog is to bookmark it.
As far as the average number of visitors to our blog each day, I think that is a great math problem for someone who loves a challenge. How about tracking our daily visitors for awhile and computing the average? I can show you how to do that in class!
The other questions will be answered in time!
Cheers!
Mrs. Ranney
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun idea; a great way to get the kids reading and writing on the computer.
Rain had a fabulous summer. She attended a new camp, where they got to go to weekly field trips. She also enjoyed the pool daily either camp, at home or at her grandparents' house.
Rain was excited to go back to school, to meet her new teacher and class.
How did the rest of the kids feel about coming back to school and starting third grade? What are some of the other kids doing after school?
Sincerely,
Eilat, Rain's mom
dear mrs ranney,
ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Ranney,

Christopher
